Four things that limit the damage while you are waiting. None of them need a tool you do not already have.

Shut the water off
The main shutoff is usually where the service line enters the building, near the meter or the front wall of the basement. For a single fixture, the angle stop under it is faster.

Kill the power to standing water
If water is near outlets, a furnace, a water heater, or a panel, switch off the circuit at the breaker before you walk in it.

Stop using the drains
If a sewer line is backing up, every sink, shower, toilet, and washing machine in the building adds to it. Stop the flow and it stops rising.

Then call us
